Best children’s books about private body parts (or genitals)

Teaching your child the correct name for their genitals or private parts can be made much easier with some good children’s books about private parts. You don’t need a book to do this, but books can help with starting and continuing, the conversation with your child.

If you’re not sure about how to get started, then you may find this blog post on how to teach your child the names of their private body parts useful.

These children’s books about private parts will help your child to understand the differences between boys and girls (something that young children are very curious about). They’ll also teach your child the correct names of these parts, and to start to talk about body safety.

The books listed here are books that talk about the different parts of the body ie the genitals. The books listed here, are focused just on teaching children the names of the private parts of their body.

A lot of parents ask me about books that include intact penises (i.e. uncircumcised penises). So I have commented on each page, as to whether the penis is intact, circumcised or if both types are displayed.

There are many general ‘sex talk’ books that also include the genitals, you can find these books here.

Some books are for toddlers and preschoolers, whereas others are books for older kids. I haven’t listed any books for tweens and teens, (as it is talked about in most of their books). Also, discussion of the private parts is also found in most (if not all) of the books that talk about where babies come from, how babies are made or the more general sex education books that cover almost everything.

You will only find books in this list that are readily available at bookshops today.

You can find more books about different topics in the main list of Sex Education Books for Children.

And if you find this list a little overwhelming, you might want to look at the age-appropriate list of sex education books.

You’ll find more information about sex education in my Sex Education 101 page.

NOTE: Before passing any book to your child or reading the book with your child, you should read it yourself first. I might think it is a great book for a certain age child or that the information is valuable, but you may disagree. You need to choose books that reflect your values and the messages you want your child to receive.
