Guy Stuff: The Body Book for Boys (American Girl) by Cara Natterson

Book Review

A short overview of this book

Guy Stuff: The Body Book for Boys (American Girl) by Cara Natterson is a popular book for boys that is about puberty and growing up.

It talks about all the changes that a boy will face as he is growing up. Sex or liking girls/boys is not talked about but wet dreams and erections are included. This book is what I call a ‘nice safe introduction’ to puberty that doesn’t focus on sex, which means it is good for younger and less mature boys.

This book only shows a circumcised penis ie where the foreskin has been removed. It does not show an intact penis (with a foreskin).

Sexual intercourse is NOT talked about in this book.

Ideal Age

Ideal for children aged 10 to 14 years.

Hey there! I’m Cath Hak from Sex Ed Rescue, and I’m super excited to tell you about this awesome new book I just discovered. It’s from the American Girl Company, you know, the ones who create those amazing books for girls? Well, they’ve gone one step further and created a book specifically for boys. How cool is that?

First off, let me just say, this book is visually stunning. It has this amazing 1950s vibe that I absolutely love. The images are beautiful and really capture your attention.

Now, this book isn’t your typical puberty book. It’s more of a gentle, vanilla approach, which makes it perfect for younger kids. It focuses on how to take care of your changing body as you grow up. It covers all the basics like body changes, smelly armpits, and growing hair in new places. But it also touches on topics like erections and wet dreams, just briefly though.

Of course, as a parent, I always flip straight to the pages about sex. You want to know what your kids are reading, right? Well, don’t worry, the book keeps it pretty tame. It shows some simple diagrams of genitals and talks about things like getting kicked in the testicles (ouch!) and different types of underwear. It even covers erections and how to handle them, as well as shaving (though that comes later in puberty).

The book also touches on feelings, peer pressure, relationships, and attraction, but it doesn’t dive into sexual desire or explicit thoughts. It’s more about understanding emotions and navigating relationships.

Overall, I think this book is fantastic. It’s informative, but not too detailed. It’s a safe resource that focuses on growing up and changing, without getting into the nitty-gritty of sex. Plus, the layout and visuals are top-notch. Even my daughter, who’s almost twelve, loved looking at the pictures.

When it comes to books like this, I believe they have to be visually appealing and easy to read. Nobody wants to slog through a novel with tons of words. We expect books like this to be fun and engaging, and this one definitely delivers.

I can’t wait for my son to be a bit older so he can start reading this book. It’s a great resource that covers all the important topics in a friendly and approachable way.

I hope this review helps you out. Cheers!
