The Porn Talk Course

Suitable for parents of children aged between 3 and 15

Learn how to talk about porn in a way that prepares, equips and empowers your child

No matter how uncomfortable, awkward or embarrassed you might feel now, this course will help you get the conversation started

You know that you need to talk to your child about porn, but you don’t know where to start…

What do you say? How do you start the conversation? What if you say too much or the wrong thing? Or even worse inadvertently encourage your child to watch porn?

Maybe your child has already seen porn, and you don’t want it to become a habit or to be their main source of information about sex…

Maybe your child has had a few near misses (like googling ‘naked sexy butts’) and found more than just bottoms…

Maybe you’ve heard some horror stories about what other kids have seen and you want to talk to your child before their first exposure…

Whatever situation has led you here,  you know that you need to talk to your child about porn. And that conversation needs to happen sooner rather than later.

This can feel like a no-win situation for many parents

As a sex educator, I increasingly get phone calls and emails from concerned parents about their pre-teens watching porn. This online course for parents is packed with factual, well-researched information, tips &activities that will help empower you as a parent to know that talking about pornography with your child (in a way that is not fear-based or judgemental) is important so that they can ultimately make wise choices.

Cath in her down to earth easy to understand manner, talks about topics including:

  • What is porn?
  • Why do we need to talk to kids about porn?
  • How does porn affect kids?
  • Is porn addictive?

Often the dangers of pornography are based on beliefs and values and not necessarily evidence based data. But Cath with her extensive knowledge and wisdom explains no matter what the research shows us, it’s important to talk with our children about it.

Are you feeling guilty because you know you need to have these conversations but you don’t know where to start, what to say, or how to say it?

Will talking openly about porn spark their curiosity?

Should you prepare your child before they first see porn (it’s only a matter of time) or shield them from it as long as possible?

If your child is already familiar with porn, should you discourage that? Does it make you a bad parent? Could they be addicted?

As an experienced sex educator I’m familiar with all these worries, I can help you to have safe, comfortable conversations about porn so that you can prepare, equip and empower your child to make smart decisions.

Hi, I’m Cath Hakanson – qualified sexual health nurse, author, speaker & the founder of Sex Ed Rescue. I help parents to find a better way to talk about sex, so they can empower their kids to make smart sexual decisions. Over the last 25 years, I’ve helped thousands of parents not just start these conversations, but to keep on having them. And I created this course because of the huge number of parents reaching out for my help with talking (to their kids) about porn.

The Porn Talk Course is an online program that will walk you through how to have conversations with your child about porn in a shame-free way

Regardless of how young (or old) your child might be

Prepare, equip and empower your child NOW!

Here’s what will happen :

STEP 1

GET READY FOR THE PORN TALK

The first part of this course is about getting ready for the porn talk.

This section is important as it gets you into the right ‘headspace’ so that you don’t get give up!

You’ll understand why this conversation is so important (so that you don’t give up). Plus you’ll get past the things that are already stopping you from talking. As well as get your own feelings about porn and sex under control (so that you aren’t too overwhelmed to talk!).

START CONVERSATIONS

The second part of this course is where you’ll actually start talking.

You’ll find out what to talk about and how to get started. And to save you time, this is broken down into age groups – 3 to 5 years, 6 to 8 years, 9 to 11 years, 12 to 14 years and 15+.

Plus you’ll start implementing some other measures that will help you to prepare, equip and empower your child. And because porn exposure is inevitable, you’ll also discover what to do when this happens.

STEP 2

STEP 3

INTEGRATE INTO EVERYDAY LIFE

The third part of this course is about making porn an ongoing conversation.

One or two conversations won’t empower your child to make smart decisions about porn. So you’ll learn how to start conversations that feel natural (instead of awkward) as well as find everyday opportunities to keep on talking. Plus more importantly, you’ll be empowering your child to make smart decisions about porn.

Questions you might have…

How is this different to all the other Porn courses out there?

This course is very different to all the other courses out there. I believe that a 1 or 2 hour webinar or workshop is not enough to give the parents the confidence to start talking to kids about porn. So this course is a deep dive into the porn talk (something you just can’t do in an hour). Where I’ll hold your hand and help you to get started with this difficult conversation.

I’ve never mentioned porn (or sex) to my child before, will this help me get started?

This course will get you started whether you’ve talked to your child about porn (or not). Inside the course, we’ll look at the different ways to start the conversation. And if you’ve yet to talk about sex, then you’ll find a BONUS mini-course that will help you with this.

How young is too young to be talking about porn?

If your child has access to your phone or a handheld tablet, then it’s a conversation you need to have. But relax, inside the course I’ll be talking about how to have age-appropriate conversations with kids of all ages. Where we talk about how to stay safe without mentioning sex or porn. And the content inside is broken down into different age groups i.e. 3 to 5 years, 6 to 8 years, 9 to 11 years, 12 to 14 years and 15+.

There’s no chance my child will be exposed to porn – do I still need this?

It’s a matter of when your child sees porn, not if! And the sooner you start the conversations, the easier they’ll get, and the safer your child will be.

I’ve already tried, but I found the conversation too uncomfortable and embarrassing…

Pardon my pun, but porn is a hard topic to talk about. This is why a whole section of the course is dedicated to helping you to feel more comfortable about porn and sex. Plus the Parent Community has been added so that you can find extra support when needed.

I’m comfortable talking about porn but my child has shut down previous attempts at conversation.

That can happen! And inside the course we’ll be talking about the different ways around this.

What if my child has already seen porn?

There is a whole section in the program that has been written specifically for parents in this situation. I’ll help you work out how best to respond in a way that will support your child  so that porn doesn’t become an ongoing problem.

What if I haven’t even talked to my child about sex?

We’ll cover that in the course. Plus if your child is younger,  I’ll show you how to talk about porn in a sex-free way.

I have one more question before I sign up.

Just send me a message here or at cath (at) sexedrescue (dot) com and I’ll get back to you.

A third of young people have seen porn by age 12.
