Hey there! I’m Cath Hak from Sex Ed Rescue, and I’m super excited to talk to you about this awesome book. It’s called Sexpectations, Boy Sex Stuff Straight Up by Craig Murray, and there’s also a version for girls called Sex Stuff Straight Up by Leissa Pitts. What’s cool about this book is that it’s designed for both boys and girls, with the front cover focusing on girl stuff and the back cover diving into boy stuff. It’s all about giving you the information that’s relevant to you and your curiosity.

The authors, who are Aussies working in sexual health in South Australia, have backgrounds in education and community health. The layout of the book is pretty similar for both versions, which is great because it keeps things consistent. Now, this book is recommended for ages 14 and up, and while it does touch on puberty, it’s mainly focused on sex itself. It covers topics like what sex is, why people have it, the rules around it, and how to have a positive attitude towards it.

You’ll also find discussions about different parts of the body, pleasure, masturbation, and what’s considered normal. It even tackles the sometimes confusing concepts of sexual desire and arousal. And of course, it addresses the idea of virginity and what makes a good relationship. There are even some basic techniques for having sex, if you’re curious about that.

The book also dives into important topics like safer sex, which is crucial to know about. And it doesn’t shy away from the tricky stuff either, like sexual violence, alcohol, assault, termination, and sexual difficulties. I did notice that there might not be a specific section on porn in this edition, but keep in mind that this book was published in 2011, and discussions about porn have become more detailed in recent years.

Visually, the book is pretty cool. It’s designed like a magazine with vibrant colors, different fonts, and lots of illustrations. It’s obvious that this book has been well-loved and borrowed by many. The information inside is top-notch, and there are even quotes from people throughout the book to add some extra insight. Plus, there are illustrations that show you how to put on a condom, which is super helpful.

Now, why do we need books like this? Well, kids are naturally curious about sex, and it’s important to provide them with accurate, age-appropriate information that isn’t pornographic. Back in the day, finding reliable resources was tough, but nowadays, kids turn to the internet. That’s why it’s crucial to give them good books like this one to learn about sex in a positive way.

I know it can be tricky to find the right books for your teenager, especially since bookstores don’t always have a great selection. That’s where Amazon comes in handy. You can use the look inside feature to get a feel for the book and see if it’s a good fit for you and your teen. Even though this edition was published in 2011, the information is still relevant today. Sure, contraception might have changed a bit, but the overall messages and knowledge remain the same.

So, if you’re looking for a great resource to help your teenager navigate the world of sex, this book is definitely worth considering. There are plenty of options out there, and it ultimately comes down to personal preference and what you think your teen will enjoy. I hope this review has been helpful. Cheers!
