Tween Talk is a Youtube channel where I answer questions and provide information for 10 to 12 year old kids about puberty.
I started this channel because a lot of kids have been watching the videos on my parent channel. So I thought that it was time to create some age-appropriate content just for them. Because kids are already searching Youtube and the internet for information about puberty. And trust me, most of what they find is not age-appropriate. If you don’t believe me, go to Youtube and type in ‘puberty’ or ‘sex’ for yourself, and see what pops up! So this channel is an alternative source of information.
It is very natural for kids between the ages of 10 and 12 (sometimes even younger) to be curious about what puberty is all about. By this age, most kids will have already heard about that ‘3 lettered word’ that parents don’t like to talk about ie sex! So they may also be curious about sex and how babies are made.
So the purpose of Tween Talk is to provide a safe place for tweens to find age-appropriate information about puberty and growing up. Information that is at their level, using language that they can easily understand, with encouragement for them to also talk with their parents. Tweens can also submit their own questions and have them answered in a video. And of course, you can watch these videos together with your child.
Because younger children may also be watching this content, the emphasis will be on puberty rather than sex. But sometimes I will need to talk about about sexual intercourse, because that is how babies are made. And puberty happens so that we can make babies. But please be assured that all information will be age-appropriate. I have kids myself, so I have a good idea of what they do and don’t understand. Plus I have over 25 years of experience!
My daughter, who is 12 and a half, will be doing the odd video and she looks after the instagram account. As she says, Instagram is the first social media site for tweens and they hang out there, so we should be there as well!
Hi, I’m Cath Hakanson and when gifts were being handed out by the 3 fairies (you know, the ones from Sleeping Beauty), I was given the gift of being able to comfortably talk about sex.
I have a string of qualifications longer than your arm, over 23 years of clinical expertise under my well-worn belt, and have helped thousands of people along the way.
When it comes to sex education, I’ve worn many hats: nurse, clinician, educator, counsellor, therapist, consultant, researcher, author and parent.
My friends call me a sexpert, but to my kids, I am just a mum who talks about sex.
Yes, I do talk about sex a lot, but in ways that strengthen relationships between parents and their children. I love helping other mothers and fathers feel comfortable about having these conversations with their kids too.
I’ve spent the last 10 years getting up close and personal with the stuff that gets in the way of parents talking to their kids about sex.
Sex Ed Rescue is my website where I help parents to get more comfortable in talking with their kids about puberty and sex. You will find lots of parent resources as well as my shop where you can find my parent tools that make sex education easy ie books, printable PDFs, eCourses and membership site.
