Book Review

A short overview of this book

Who? A Celebration of Babies by Robie H. Harris is a board book for babies about the different parts of the body and the senses. There is also another board book by this author, Look! Babies Head to Toe.

When we look at sex education for babies and toddlers, one of the important conversations to have is about families and the different relationships you can have.

And this book is a great way to start those conversations. As it looks at the different people in a babies life – parents, grandparents and pets.

Hey there! I’m Cath Hak, and welcome to Sex Ed Rescue. This is the place where I help parents find a better way to talk to their kids about love, sex, relationships, and all that good stuff. I also have a YouTube channel where I review books and discuss sex education, although lately it’s been mostly book reviews.

Today, I want to talk about these awesome board books by Robie Harris. Now, Robie Harris is known for writing sex education books, which sometimes stirs up controversy. But hey, that’s why I was curious to check them out!

There are two books in this series, and I’ll keep an eye out for any new releases. The first one is all about naming body parts, although it doesn’t specifically mention genitals. It’s a great way to start those important conversations about our bodies and what they do.

The second book is about relationships and family. It’s a rhyming board book, perfect for those little ones. I remember reading these types of books to my own kids when they were younger. You know, the ones you say in a sing-song way to capture their attention? Good times!

What I love about these books is that they embrace diversity. There are different skin tones and various types of parents depicted, so it’s not just the typical mom and dad. You can easily adapt the words to fit your own family dynamics. Maybe you call grandma Nana or have a different term for a single parent. That’s totally cool!

The illustrations show a baby with their dad, mom, dog, bird, and even grandma. And hey, if you’re not into the whole dada thing, you can always change the words to suit your own family. It’s all about making it relatable and comfortable for you and your little one.

These books are a fantastic way to introduce the concept of relationships and different people in our lives. They’re inclusive, fun, and a great starting point for those important conversations.

I hope you found this review helpful! Now, I’m off to buy a brooch for my daughter. She’s going to have to do some work for me to earn it, but hey, that’s the deal we made. Catch you later!
