Womanwise Cards by Jane Bennett and Andrew Lines

Book Review

A short overview of this book

Womanwise Cards by Jane Bennett and Andrew Lines are designed to help parents and educators to support important, developmentally-appropriate, conversations with girls about growing up.

These cards are fantastic and are a great tool for starting conversations with your tween or teen girl, about what it means to be a woman. Topics include my future, my mind, my philosophy, my relationships, my self, my body. Each card asks a significant question, with the back providing you with other questions, that will enrich the conversation on that point. I love them and I think they are a great tool for educators, as well as for parents who need some ideas on how to start conversations.

Hey there! Welcome to Sex Ed Rescue with Cath Hak. Today, I want to talk about these awesome empowering cards that can help you have positive conversations with girls as they grow up. So, let’s dive right in!

Now, before we get started, I have a little backstory for you. This is actually my second review of these cards. The first one was on YouTube, but unfortunately, the channel got closed and all the videos were lost. Luckily, I had downloaded them, but some got missed, including this one. That’s why I’m reviewing these cards again. But trust me, they’re totally worth it!

The cards I’m talking about are called Woman Wise cards, created by Jane Bennett and Andrew Lines. These two amazing people have been doing fantastic work empowering teenagers and helping them become amazing adults. So, anything they create is bound to be wonderful.

Alright, let’s talk about the cards themselves. There are 77 cards in total, divided into six suites. It’s like a pack of cards, with different suites like hearts and spades (I’m not much of a card player, so forgive me if I forget the others). Each suite focuses on a different topic: myself, my body, my mind, relationships, philosophy, and future.

The idea behind these cards is to trigger and support conversations. They’re perfect for girls aged 13 and up, as well as women of any age. You can use them in various ways. For example, you can have them sitting on the kitchen table and pull a card during dinner to discuss. Or, if you and your daughter are feeling bored, just throw some cards down and start chatting about them. It’s that easy!

Let me show you an example. Here’s a card from the myself suite. It asks, Who are your female heroes? And on the back, there are more questions like, What qualities do you admire in women? and Who do you know who has these qualities? It’s a great way to spark meaningful conversations.

The cards cover a wide range of topics. For instance, the future suite asks questions like, Is having money important? and What issues are you passionate about? These are the kind of conversations that can really make a difference in our kids’ lives.

Oh, and don’t worry, the cards come with conversation guides and suggestions on how to use them. They’ve got you covered!

Let’s not forget about the vibrant colors of the cards. They’re so eye-catching! Each suite has its own distinct color, making it easy to spot the different sets. I love that attention to detail.

Now, let me tell you a little bit about Jane Bennett and Andrew Lines. Jane is the creator of celebration days for girls, which are workshops for girls as they start their periods. And Andrew does empowering workshops for boys, helping them grow up to become good men. When these two powerhouses join forces, you know you’re getting something truly special.

I believe Andrew also has a set of cards targeting boys, but don’t quote me on that. I might have missed grabbing a copy because, let’s be honest, I tend to spend way too much money on resources. But hey, I mainly work with parents, so it’s all good.

To sum it up, these Woman Wise cards are a fantastic resource for having meaningful conversations with your kids. Whether you’re a parent or a guardian, these cards can help you navigate important topics with ease. So, why not consider grabbing a set for yourself?

Before I wrap up, I’m going to check out what workshops Andrew has coming up. I think it would be powerful for my son to attend one, and maybe even his dad too. I’ll make a note to remind myself after this video.

Alright, that’s all from me. I hope you found this review helpful. Remember, open and honest conversations are key when it comes to sex education. Take care and see you next time!
