Hey there! I’m Cath Hak, and welcome to Sex Ed Rescue. This is where I help parents find an easier way to talk to their kids about sex. Today, I want to talk to you about a fantastic book by Jonny Hunt, a sex educator in the UK who also teaches sex education in schools.

The book is called Sex Ed for Grownups: How to Talk to Children and Young People about Sex and Relationships. Now, I usually don’t review books that claim to have all the answers when it comes to sex education. I believe that having lots of conversations is key, and one book can’t cover it all. But recently, I’ve come across a few gems that I think are really helpful for parents.

This particular book is one of them. It’s a big, thick book packed with loads of information. It even has some diagrams to help illustrate certain topics. Let me show you what’s inside. Now, keep in mind that the index might not always give you all the information you need. It covers the foundations of sex education and then dives into talking about bodies. It covers all the conversations you would have with children of different ages.

Oh, sorry about the interruption. That’s just my dog playing her silly ball game under the table. She can do it all day, but it can be a bit annoying during a video. Anyway, back to the book. It starts by getting you comfortable and helping you understand what sex education is all about. Then, it guides you through conversations about bodies, including naming body parts and talking about where babies come from. It also covers important topics like making sex safe, contraception, STIs, consent, and what to do when things don’t go as planned. There’s even a section on sex and media, discussing things like pornography, social media, mobile phones, and sexting.

Let me tell you, I really like this book. I actually spent my own money on it, which is saying something because I’m usually hesitant to buy books. But this one was definitely worth it. It aligns perfectly with the approach I take to sex education, which is why I’m promoting it. It’s a great resource that will give you plenty of ideas, and it’s not at all boring. There are even some interesting stories sprinkled throughout.

So, if you’re looking for a helpful guide on how to have these important conversations with your kids, I highly recommend this book. I hope you find this review helpful. Cheers!
