Hey there! I’m Cath Hak, your friendly Sex Ed Rescue expert. Today, I want to talk to you about a fantastic book for young children that tackles the topic of love.

When it comes to discussing sex with our kids, love is an important aspect that often gets intertwined as they grow older. But when they’re little, it’s crucial to help them understand love and its different forms. That’s where books like Slug In Love come in handy.

Written by Rachel Bright and Nadia Shireen, this book is absolutely beautiful and huge! The illustrations are simple yet lovely, making it a joy to read. The story follows Doug, a lovable slug who just wants a hug. He goes around asking different people, but some say yes and some say no. It’s a journey of ups and downs, with some describing Doug as grimy, slippy, squirtie, slimy, yucky, and sticky. Poor Doug feels sad and lonely, desperately searching for someone to hug.

But fear not! Doug eventually finds a friend in a ladybug. Love comes flying by, and Doug finally gets his much-needed hug. It’s a heartwarming tale that explores both romantic relationships and friendships.

I personally loved this book so much that I requested my local library to order it, and they did! Now, other parents in my city can enjoy reading it to their children too. It’s a great resource to start conversations about love and all its beautiful aspects.

I know as parents, we often feel overwhelmed by the number of topics we need to discuss with our kids. But books like this make it easier. You can read it together, have a conversation, and then move on to another book on a different topic later on. It’s all about taking it one step at a time.

So, give Slug In Love a try! I hope you find it helpful, and I’m sure your kids will love it too. I wish I had discovered it when my own kids were younger. They would have definitely enjoyed it.

Cheers and happy reading!
