Hey there! I’m Cath Hak, and welcome to Sex Ed Rescue. This is where I review a bunch of books on YouTube because I truly believe that books can make those awkward conversations with your kids a little easier. So, you’ll find loads of book reviews on my channel. And Sex Ed Rescue is also my website, where I help parents find better ways to talk to their kids about sex. That’s where you’ll find the book list.

To make it simple for you to find the perfect book, I organize them into different lists based on different topics. I’m pretty sure there’s a list for families because I’ve been on the hunt for some great books on that subject. So, if you want to learn more about how to talk to your kids about love, sex, relationships, puberty, and all that good stuff, head over to the website. You’ll find all the resources you need there.

Let’s talk about We Are Family by Patricia Hegarty. I really like this book, especially the beautiful visuals. It’s filled with lovely images that showcase the diversity of families. You’ll see families of different cultures, same-sex families, and even step or foster families. It’s all about how families stick together through thick and thin, supporting each other in good times and bad.

The book takes you through the daily routines of different families. Mornings are busy, with everyone rushing around. You’ll see families having breakfast together, some in front of the TV, some at the table. There’s even a kid with two dads enjoying a cup of tea. The message is clear: all families are different, and that’s totally okay. This book helps kids understand and accept diversity, even within their own family.

Why are books like this important? Well, they normalize diversity and help kids feel comfortable with their own family makeup. It’s natural for a child living with their grandma to feel a bit different when everyone else has moms and dads. But books like this show them that it’s okay to be different. They also teach empathy and understanding, so kids won’t judge others based on their family structure. It’s all about embracing diversity and being better people.

The book also covers going to school, transportation, getting sick, and going on holidays. It emphasizes that families are there for each other no matter what happens. They face challenges together and support one another. The illustrations are vibrant and engaging, capturing the love, care, and strength within families.

The only thing I noticed is that the book could have been more diverse. It’s not as inclusive as another book called The Barefoot Children’s Book. But overall, I still think it’s a beautiful book with amazing artwork and colors that will captivate your child’s attention.

So, if you’re looking for a book to help your kids understand what a family is and how they can be different, We Are Family is definitely one to consider. It’s just one of the many helpful books out there for starting conversations about families, relationships, and all the wonderful ways we can be connected. I hope this review was helpful. Cheers!
