Your Growing Body and Remarkable Reproductive System by Paul Mason

Book Review

A short overview of this book

Your Growing Body and Remarkable Reproductive System by Paul Mason is a factual book for tweens about the reproductive system BUT it doesn’t talk about sexual intercourse (for some strange reason).

This is a factual book that would be perfect for kids that geek out on facts, and who are curious about the scientific way a baby is made, and how the reproductive system works.

Hey there! I’m Cath Hak, and welcome to Sex Ed Rescue. This is where I review all sorts of books, just like the one I have here. But Sex Ed Rescue is more than just a YouTube channel. It’s also a website where I help parents find better ways to talk to their kids about sex. So let’s dive into this book called Your Growing Body and Remarkable Reproductive System.

This book is part of a series that covers different parts of the body like the heart, brain, skeleton, and lungs. But today, we’re focusing on the reproductive system. Now, it’s important to note that this book doesn’t talk about sexual intercourse. It’s a detailed book packed with facts, but it skips over certain things.

The layout is pretty cool. It’s filled with lots of pictures and information. It starts by explaining what made you, diving into DNA and genetics. Then it talks about how a sperm cell from a man combines with an egg cell inside a woman. The book also covers how sperm swim and fertilize the egg, and it goes into detail about cell division and the growth of a baby. It even touches on birthing, twins, and how babies grow and change as they get older.

Puberty is also discussed, exploring the changes that happen during this time. Hormones, body growth, and the development of the brain are all covered. The book addresses the female body with periods and the male body with the penis and testicles. It even touches on topics like sperm and circumcision. As we grow older, it talks about the changes our bodies go through and offers tips on staying fit and healthy.

Now, let’s talk about how detailed it gets with the genitals. It’s not super detailed, but there are some illustrations that show the reproductive system. However, it doesn’t have a super detailed image of a vulva for those curious little ones. It takes a safe and vanilla approach to reproduction, leaving out things that some parents might find uncomfortable. But remember, no book is perfect! Use this as an opportunity to have a conversation with your child about the missing information or anything that bothers you.

I hope this review helps you out. Cheers!
