  • Why? What? How? – All kinds of vulva/vagina related questions answered

Hey there! I’m Cath Hak from Sex Ed Rescue, where I help parents get more comfortable with sex education and share awesome resources. Today, I want to tell you about this amazing book I came across called A Celebration of Vulva Diversity. It’s written by Hilde Atalanta, a sexologist based in Amsterdam.

This book is seriously cool! It’s not your typical sex ed book, let me tell you. It’s beautifully illustrated and all about normalizing and educating about the female anatomy, specifically the vulva. You know, that part down there that sometimes feels a bit mysterious? Well, this book breaks it all down and shows just how different and amazing our vulvas can be.

What’s great about this book is that it uses illustrations instead of photographs. Real-life pictures can be a bit overwhelming, especially for younger readers. But with illustrations, it’s easier to show the diversity and uniqueness of vulvas without making anyone feel self-conscious.

Hilde Atalanta, the author, has really done her homework. She’s worked with gynecologists, physios, nurses, and midwives to make sure the information in the book is accurate. And let me tell you, the illustrations are stunning. The attention to detail, the different skin tones, and the little ribbons are all so beautifully done.

The book covers a bunch of topics, from anatomy to gender identity to periods. It even busts common myths and misconceptions. And let me tell you, there are some gorgeous illustrations of the clitoris and the hymen that are both informative and empowering.

Now, I wouldn’t say you need to buy a copy for every teenager out there, but as an educator or health professional, this book is a fantastic resource to have. And as a parent, I think it’s a great addition to any bookshelf. It’s not just about the fanny (or bum if you’re in America), it’s also packed with useful information and real stories from women.

I’m seriously impressed with this book, and I think it’s a valuable tool for promoting body positivity and self-acceptance. It’s important for young people to understand that their bodies are unique and beautiful, and this book helps to normalize those differences.

Oh, and did I mention the little vulva illustrations all over the cover? It’s such a cool touch! I’m definitely proud to have this book on my shelf, and I’m sure my daughter will appreciate it even more as she gets older.

So, if you’re looking for a book that celebrates vulva diversity and provides informative and empowering content, I highly recommend checking out A Celebration of Vulva Diversity. It’s a beautiful book that will help promote self-esteem and body positivity. Cheers!
