My period – Everything you want to know about periods by Hey Girls

Book Review

A short overview of this book

My period – Everything you want to know about periods by Hey Girls is a set of flashcards that are designed to start positive conversations about periods in a group or individually.

This is a set of conversation cards that have been produced by Hey Girl, a social enterprise that also makes environmentally friendly period supplies. They were created in consultation with The Real Period Project.

They are a  resource that can be used for groups but also with the one person.

One side of the card has an image (photo or illustration) and the other side contains factual written information.

Inside you’ll find a booklet with suggestions on how to use the cards.

As a parent, you could lay these cards out on the table and randomly pick one and talk about it. Or lay them out on the table and pick 5 cards on a topic that you don’t know much about or a topic that interests you. They are a great way to start comfortable conversations about periods.

Ideal Age

Ideal for children aged 9 to 14 years.

Hey there! I’m Cath Hak from Sex Ed Rescue, and today I want to talk to you about these awesome cards that can help you have conversations with your tween or teen about periods and growing up. I recently came across these cards created by Heygirls Co UK, a period supply company in the UK, and I just had to get my hands on them to support the great work they’re doing.

So, let’s dive in! These cards are a decent size and come with a handy little book that gives you ideas on how to use them, learning outcomes, and a guide to periods. Inside, you’ll find 50 cards packed with information, activities, and even some myth-busting. They cover everything from the anatomy to period colors, and they have answers to common questions like how many openings a girl has between her legs (spoiler alert: it’s three!).

Each card has a picture on one side and information on the other. You’ll learn about different period products, like disposable pads and tampons, and how to use them. They even tackle topics like discharge and what happens after you have a baby. Plus, they address common concerns like leaking, period pain, and how periods can affect your mood.

These cards are a fantastic resource for starting conversations with your daughter or child about periods. You can casually throw them on the table or work your way through them together. They’re not only great for parents, but also for educators or anyone who works with kids. You can use them as a teaching aid or just keep them at home to help navigate those important discussions.

Remember, periods are a normal part of life, and these cards can help remove the stigma and make those conversations easier. So, don’t worry if you’re feeling a bit unsure or nervous. These cards have got your back!

I hope this review helps, and cheers to open and honest conversations about periods!
