👋 Hi, I’m Cath Hakanson
I’m a qualified sex educator, sexual health nurse, and the founder of Sex Ed Rescue. For more than 30 years, I’ve helped parents talk about bodies, puberty, relationships and sex – without freezing up, over-explaining, or feeling like they have to deliver the “perfect” talk.
I’m also an autistic ADHDer and mum to two neurodivergent kids. Becoming a parent showed me something surprising – even with all my training, sex ed felt different when it was my own children asking the questions.
That’s why I focus on clear, calm, practical sex education. No fluff. No moral panic. No vague advice. Just straightforward guidance that helps you support your child’s safety, autonomy and understanding – in a way that fits your family’s values.

The free Facebook group had more than 200,000 members when Facebook took it offline last summer. Hosted separately from social media, the Sex Ed Membership community is smaller. And smaller means more focused attention for YOU and YOUR NEEDS. You get answers from a qualified family sex educator who is straight-up, down to earth, unshockable and has spent 25+ years educating families about sex.
There is no magic age for starting (or continuing) sex education. Whether your child is a baby or a teenager, the perfect time to start is now. So the membership is suitable for parents of every age. You’ll find answers (and information) relating to kids aged 0-18.
The way the membership system works: one email address equals one account. If you’re willing to share your login and password, your parenting partner can access the membership through your account. But if you want two separate accounts, you’ll need to join the membership separately.
This membership is designed to help parents at all stages of their sex ed journey. So whether you’ve had just a few conversations or you’re talking all the time, the membership is here to support you and help you to progress and cover new topics.
Absolutely not. The Sex Ed Membership is here to reduce your overwhelm, not add to it.
This isn’t a pass-or-fail course or online program. It’s designed for you to get the objective, accurate information you need when you need it. And because I know how busy you are, the training is delivered via short lessons with easy-to-implement actions.
No. All the training material is available
in the membership platform, which you can access any time, from any device with an internet connection.
The calls are live and if you want to have a back-and-forth convo with me, then you’ll need to attend. Otherwise you can submit a question ahead of time and watch the recording after.
You’ll get your own unique login as soon as you sign up. You can then access everything online whenever you need it, which means you can ask questions in the community, watch videos, download any PDFs, and listen to the audio all in your own time.
You’ll also find a welcome video with directions on how to get started! Plus receive emails to get you settled in and comfortable with how it all works.
You can sign into the membership on any computer. Or save it to the homescreen of your device for easy access.

Absolutely not! It is a monthly membership that you can cancel at any time. However, because of the nature of our system, refunds aren’t possible. Cancellations take effect on your renewal date.
