Anatomy: A Cutaway Look Inside the Human Body by Jeane-Claude Druvert

Book Review

A short overview of this book

Anatomy: A Cutaway Look Inside the Human Body by Jeane-Claude Druvert is a beautiful book that looks at the human body.

The artwork is beautiful and it has amazing flaps to lift and cutouts so that you can see how the muscles, bone, blood etc work together. It does include the reproductive system but the detail is very basic.

It provides a softer (more artistic) approach to anatomy than the other books that are full of lifelike photos and illustrations.

Ideal Age

Ideal for children aged 8 to 12 years.

Hey there! I’m Cath Hak from Sex Ed Rescue, your go-to channel for all things related to sex education. Today, I want to talk about a really cool book that I recently borrowed from the library. It’s called Anatomy: A Cutaway Look Inside the Human Body by Jeane-Claude Druvert (I hope I pronounced that right!).

Let me tell you, this book is massive! It’s not a pop-up book, but it has these awesome little flaps and interactive elements that make it super engaging. Now, here’s the thing: when you first open books like this, you’ll notice that the reproductive part is usually tucked away at the very back. I don’t know why, but a lot of anatomy books tend to skip over the topic of reproduction. They might touch on babies and pregnancy, but they don’t really explain how it all happens.

And guess what? They often lack detailed pictures of the genitals. But fear not, this book does include them! Although the illustrations aren’t super detailed, you’ll find a depiction of the male genitalia with a big black bushy bit and a mustache on the penis. As for the female genitalia, it’s not described in great detail either. So, if you’re specifically looking for a book that shows what vaginas and vulvas look like, this might not be the best choice. However, it does provide some information about what’s inside and talks about how the baby grows during pregnancy.

Now, keep in mind that this book has been well-loved by others too, as evidenced by the food stain on one of the pages. It’s always nice to know that someone else found it interesting, right? Plus, the book covers more than just reproductive anatomy. It delves into the various organs and their functions, as well as what happens during pregnancy.

Overall, I think this book is pretty awesome. It’s visually different and has interactive elements that will keep your kids engaged. While it may not go into extreme detail about the reproductive parts, it’s still a step in the right direction compared to many other anatomy books out there. Some books tend to shy away from discussing this topic, but this one includes it, albeit briefly.

I hope this review helps you make an informed decision. Cheers!
