A short overview of this book

Can We Talk About Consent?: A book about freedom, choices, and agreement by Justin Hancock is an english book that provides teens with detailed information about consent.

Consent is much more than just a simple yes or no. It’s about freedom, choices and agreement in your everyday life – not just your sexual life.

So this book does a deep dive into consent. It provides quite a lot of detailed information that is presented in a way that teens will understand.

The book covers a broad range of topics, including:

  • how we greet each other
  • how to choose things for ourselves
  • how we say no to things
  • communicating and respecting choices in sexual relationships
  • the factors that can affect a person’s ability to choose
  • how to empower other people by giving them consent

Hey there! I’m Cath Hak, and welcome to Sex Ed Rescue. Today, I want to talk about this awesome book on consent for teens. It’s called Consent: A Book about Freedom, Choices, and Agreement by Justin Hancock, a renowned sex educator from the United Kingdom. Trust me, this guy knows his stuff!

First off, let me tell you about Justin. He’s been in the game for a long time, working with teens and conducting workshops and trainings for fellow sex educators. He’s got this amazing website called Bish (you can find it at bishuk.com), which is like a treasure trove of information on bodies, sex, love, relationships, and all that good stuff. Seriously, I send teenagers there all the time!

Now, let’s dive into the book itself. It’s a small, colorful, and jam-packed gem. There’s so much valuable information crammed into these pages. What I really appreciate about Justin is that he doesn’t just focus on sex. This book is about consent in general and how it applies to your everyday life. He breaks it down using relatable examples, like making decisions about pizza (yum!) and applying consent to interactions with others. Of course, he also covers the sex part, but he goes beyond that to talk about consensus groups, agency, empowerment, and more.

Visually, the book is a treat. The artwork is beautiful, and the colors really pop. My only gripe is that the writing is a bit small, and they could have spread things out a bit more. But hey, that’s just me being picky. I review a ton of books, so I like ’em spacious.

All in all, this book is a fantastic addition to the growing collection of resources on consent for teens. It’s engaging, informative, and covers a wide range of topics. If you’re looking for a way to talk to your kids about consent, this book is a must-have.

I hope this review helps you out. Take care!
