Hey there! I’m Cath Hak from Sex Ed Rescue, your go-to channel for all things related to sex education. Today, I want to talk about a fantastic book that tackles an important topic: sexual consent for teenagers.

Now, I know consent is a hot topic right now, especially with all the recent cases in America where brave young girls have come forward and shared their experiences of rape. It’s sparked a conversation about how we can improve our discussions around consent. That’s where this book comes in. It’s called Everything You Need To Know About Sexual Consent and it’s part of the Need to Know library series.

This book, published in 2018, is written by Carla Mooney, who happens to be around the same age as me. I have to say, it’s very American-centric, with lots of court cases that I personally haven’t heard about since I’m not on Facebook much and don’t watch the news. But don’t worry, it covers a wide range of topics too, like digital privacy, gun violence, sextortions, stress and depression, trolls, and cyber mobs.

Now, let’s dive into the nitty-gritty. The book explains what sexual consent is and introduces the concept of affirmative consent. It’s definitely geared towards teenagers aged 16 and above, maybe those getting ready for college or in late high school. It emphasizes that sex without consent is technically rape and that consent isn’t just about walking away. It’s important to understand that women can freeze and that just because someone is lying there doesn’t mean it’s okay to have sex with them. The book also addresses the impact of drugs and alcohol on a person’s ability to give consent.

Now, this book may be small, with just 60 pages, but it’s a great starting point for understanding sexual consent. As far as I know, it’s one of the few books out there specifically focusing on this topic. I’ve heard rumors of another one coming out soon, so I’ll keep an eye out for that and let you know.

So, if you’re looking for a resource to help teenagers navigate the world of sexual consent, this book is definitely worth checking out. It’s not as comprehensive as some others I have on my shelf, but it’s a valuable addition to any teenager’s library.

I hope this review has been helpful to you. Cheers!
