Eyes, Nose, Fingers and Toes by Judy Hindley

Book Review

A short overview of this book

Eyes, Nose, Fingers and Toes by Judy Hindley is a great book for starting early conversations with babies and toddlers about their body and what all the different parts do. And yes, it doesn’t include the genitals. Very few books do!

These conversations are important as they help kids to understand how their body works.

This book is also available as a board book.

Hey there! I’m Cath Hak, and welcome to Sex Ed Rescue. On my website, I help parents find an easier way to start conversations with their kids about love, relationships, and growing up. Believe it or not, these conversations can start from a young age. Now, don’t worry, we’re not talking about sex just yet. We’re keeping it age-appropriate by focusing on talking about bodies.

Let me introduce you to a great book called A First Book All About You: Eyes, Nose, Fingers, and Toes by Judy Hindley. This book is all about our bodies, and while I’m showing you the paperback version, it also comes as a board book. It’s written in a beautiful, sing-song way that kids will love. Now, they didn’t include the genitals like the penis and vulva in this book, probably to avoid any controversy. But don’t worry, you can talk about those parts yourself as you read the book.

Let me give you a sneak peek of what’s inside. The book is a bit tricky to turn the pages, so I’ll just show you a couple of examples. Eyes are to blink, eyes are to wink. Eyes are for looking and finding you. Eyes are to shut when you’re asleep. Eyes are for hiding peekaboo. Isn’t that adorable? The book goes on like that, talking about different body parts. It even includes diverse characters, representing different genders and cultural backgrounds.

Now, keep in mind that this is an older book, so it may not include disabilities. But don’t worry, there are more and more books out there that do. The book covers all the body parts and even touches on kisses, smiles, and hugs. It’s a fun and engaging way to introduce children to their bodies and teach them the names of different body parts. And if there’s anything missing, you can always add it in yourself.

I just wanted to share this book with you because it’s a great addition to your collection of books for younger children. So go ahead and check it out! Cheers!
