Hey there! I’m Cath Hak, and welcome to Sex Ed Rescue. On my YouTube channel and website, I review books that make sex education easier and help parents talk to their kids about sex. Today, I want to talk about a book called Heads Up: Increase your sexual confidence, expand your sexual repertoire, and get the real low down on oral sex by Dr. Teesha Morgan and Constance Lynn Hummel.

Now, you might be wondering why I’m reviewing a technical book about oral sex. Well, the truth is, teens these days are curious about sex. Heck, we were all curious at that age! As we go through puberty and adolescence, we start wondering about the mechanics of sex. How does it actually work? Where do things go? What do you do with your mouth and hands?

Back in the day, we turned to encyclopedias or sneaky books hidden under our parents’ beds. But nowadays, kids turn to the internet. If they want to know something, they just Google it. But let’s be real, porn isn’t the best way to learn about real, everyday sex. Growing up on a diet of porn can make kids think that their bodies aren’t good enough and focus more on the physical act rather than the emotional connection.

That’s where a book like Heads Up comes in handy. It’s a great alternative to porn for curious teens who want to learn about the mechanics of sex. Now, I know some parents might be shocked at the thought of giving their teen a book like this. But let’s be practical here. Kids are growing up in a different world. No matter how much you try to block or supervise their internet access, they’re exposed to sexual content at school and in the media.

By hiding information from them, we’re sending the message that sex is something to be ashamed of. And that’s not what we want, right? We want to satisfy their natural curiosity and provide them with accurate information. So instead of leading them to porn, why not give them a better source of knowledge?

Heads Up is a small but informative book that covers everything you need to know about oral sex. It talks about techniques, shares some humor, and provides facts. It even includes a bit of history. The illustrations are simple and straightforward, showing different positions and techniques.

For example, there’s the Sleepy Suzy position, where one partner lies on their back with a pillow under their head while the other straddles their face. It’s a position that allows the receiver to relax and enjoy the experience. The book also covers important topics like using condoms and taking care of your sexual health.

Now, I know some parents might still feel hesitant about giving their teen a book like this. But here’s the thing: we need to be upfront and open about sex. It’s completely normal to be curious about it, and it’s okay to share your own experiences and feelings about porn. Do you want your child to learn about sex from unrealistic portrayals in porn? If not, then providing them with a book like Heads Up can be a great way to give them accurate information and satisfy their curiosity.

So, let’s be practical and realistic. Let’s normalize conversations about sex and provide our teens with the knowledge they need to make informed decisions. Heads Up is just one of many resources out there that can help us do that.

I hope this review has been helpful. Cheers!
