Hey there! I’m Cath Hak from Sex Ed Rescue, and I want to chat with you about this awesome book by Todd Parr called It’s Okay to Be Different. Now, let me clarify, this isn’t a sex education book per se, but it’s all about teaching kids about diversity, relationships, and feeling good about themselves. We need to have these conversations with our little ones, not just about sex, but about accepting and embracing differences.
As parents, we all want our children to grow up open-minded, non-judgmental, and accepting of the diverse world around them. I know I certainly don’t want my kids to discriminate against others based on their appearance or sexual orientation. But here’s the thing, by teaching our kids to accept others, we’re also teaching them that it’s totally okay to be different themselves. And that’s where self-esteem comes into play.
Todd Parr has a whole series of books covering various topics like feelings, relationships, and more. But what I love about It’s Okay to Be Different is its simplicity. It’s a fantastic book for the early years, perfect for kids aged two or three. It reassures them that it’s okay to need help, to look different, or to have different kinds of friends. And at the end, it reminds them that they are special and important just the way they are.
When I read this book with my own kids, they absolutely loved it. The colorful illustrations captured their attention, and it sparked some great discussions. We would talk about how they were different from their friends and what unique qualities they brought to the table. It was a lot of fun!
So, while It’s Okay to Be Different may not be a sex education book, it’s a fantastic tool to plant the seeds of acceptance and self-acceptance in our little ones. It’s all about embracing diversity and celebrating our individuality.
Alright, that’s it for this short video. Take care and have a great day! Bye!
