Book Review

A short overview of this book

Knowledge Encyclopedia Human Body by DK is a book about the human body that also includes the reproductive system (most of these style of books deliberately leave this system out).

It is very factual, with lots of interesting facts and lots of images! The sort of book that makes a great Christmas or Birthday gift for the kid who geeks out on facts!

Ideal Age

Ideal for children aged 9 to 12 years.

Hey there! I’m Cath Hak from Sex Ed Rescue, and today I want to talk about this awesome anatomy book for kids that I recently came across. It’s one of those big, thick books with loads of pictures. If you have a curious little one who wants to learn about the reproductive system, this is one of the few books out there that actually covers it.

Now, let me tell you about the book. At the beginning, it introduces all the different systems in the body, but I have to admit, the female reproductive system gets a lot more attention than the male one. However, don’t worry, because there’s more information about the male body towards the back of the book.

Speaking of which, the back is where they always put the section on reproduction. It explains what happens during the menstrual cycle, talks about the reproductive system, and even touches on the male anatomy. There are detailed illustrations that show the inner workings of the male body, including the bowels and all that stuff. It also talks about sperm and how they find the egg. It’s all written in a safe and scientific way, so you don’t have to worry about it being too explicit.

Now, I want to emphasize that this book focuses on the mechanics of sex and reproduction. It doesn’t dive into values and relationships. But hey, it’s still an important resource to have. When we exclude information about the reproductive system from books, it sends a message to kids that it’s a taboo topic. That’s why I think it’s great to have books like this that open up the conversation.

Even if a book doesn’t include the reproductive system, you can still talk about it with your kids. It’s a chance to discuss why some books leave it out and what that means. Trust me, my kids and I have a blast exploring books about the human body and seeing if they mention the reproductive system. It’s a great way to break down any barriers and make it a normal part of conversation.

I know this book may not be the most detailed one out there, but it’s a good start. I’m actually planning to get a copy for myself because I believe every family should have a resource like this. It answers so many questions about how our bodies work.

Alright, I’ve got to run and pick up my kid from school. Always running a little late, but luckily the school is just a few houses away. Anyway, I hope this review helps you out. Cheers and have a fantastic day!
