Hey there! I’m Cath Hak, the founder of Sex Ed Rescue. On my YouTube channel, I cover all things related to sex education, including book reviews. Sex Ed Rescue also has a website where I help parents find better ways to talk to their kids about love, sex, relationships, puberty, and growing up. Today, I want to talk about a book called Love Your Body by Jessica Sanders, beautifully illustrated by Kara Rosette. This book is specifically written for tween girls and focuses on body image.

Love Your Body is all about embracing and appreciating your body while understanding that everyone is unique, and that’s totally okay. Inside, you’ll find some great guidance on how to change any negative beliefs or feelings you may have about your body. The illustrations in this book are simply stunning, showcasing a variety of different bodies. And don’t worry, all the bodies are clothed, so there’s no nudity involved.

Now, as a sex educator, I believe it’s important to include all parts of the body when discussing body image. Sometimes, leaving certain body parts out can unintentionally send the message that they should be shameful. So, I must admit, I was a little disappointed that this book didn’t include those parts. However, I understand that many books in this genre tend to play it safe and stick to mainstream ideas.

Love Your Body covers a wide range of topics, emphasizing that everyone is different. It also touches on puberty and how your body and feelings about it can change during that time. The book is about 30-plus pages long, and while it’s not perfect, it can definitely be a useful tool to start a conversation.

I should mention that this is one of the few books out there specifically addressing body image for younger girls. So, if you’re looking for a book to kickstart a conversation with your child, this could be a valuable resource. Just keep in mind that it may not cover everything you need, unlike some other comprehensive sex education and puberty books. But hey, give it a read and see what you think for yourself.

Alright, that’s all for now. Cheers!
