A book for kids that have received their first phone. Hey there! I’m Cath Hak from Sex Ed Rescue, and I’ve got something cool to share with you. So, I recently came across these awesome ebooks from Educate Empower Kids, and let me tell you, they’re pretty great. I mean, I live in Australia, and getting books shipped from the US can be a bit pricey, so finding these affordable ebooks was a win for me.

Now, what I love about these books is that they tackle some important topics without reinventing the wheel. They’re not just another children’s book on subjects that have already been covered. Instead, they focus on new issues and provide resources that make it easier for parents to navigate these conversations. They’ve got books on Healthy Body Image, and the one I want to talk about today is called I’ll Read It Out: Noah’s New Phone Story about Using Technology for Good.

This book is all about teaching kids to use social media in a positive way. It starts off with Noah getting a mobile phone for his birthday, which is super relevant because my daughter is almost twelve and I just ordered her first phone. So, you can bet we’ll be reading this book together, even though she might think it’s a bit immature to read with her mom.

One thing I really appreciate is that the book emphasizes the importance of having a conversation about responsible phone use before handing it over to your kid. You know, like setting some ground rules. Noah’s journey with his phone is relatable and eye-opening. He gets so caught up in texting and social media that it starts to affect his relationships and how he expresses himself. It’s a wake-up call for him when he realizes he’s missing out on real-life connections.

There’s a powerful moment in the book where Noah faces some online bullying after an embarrassing incident. It’s tough, but he learns to handle it with the support of his family. He starts using social media differently, spreading positivity and compliments instead of getting caught up in negativity. And guess what? It makes a difference in his life.

The book also provides discussion questions, helpful information, and tips for parents at the back. It’s a great tool to start conversations with your kids about phone use and the potential challenges they might face online. And let’s be honest, there aren’t a ton of resources out there specifically addressing these issues, so it’s definitely worth checking out.

Oh, and speaking of challenges, let me share a personal experience. When I was going through my daughter’s email with her, we stumbled upon some sexually explicit spam. Yikes! It was a reminder that we need to have conversations about this kind of stuff, even though it can be uncomfortable. But hey, that’s part of being a parent, right?

Now, back to the book. Noah’s New Phone Story is great for starting conversations with younger kids, but it can also be helpful for families who give their kids phones at a younger age. Some kids are pretty tech-savvy, you know? They’re sending messages and staying connected even at a young age. So, this book can be a valuable resource for those situations too.

Alright, I’ve rambled on enough. I hope you found this review helpful, and I really think this book is worth checking out. It’s a fantastic tool for discussing phone use and navigating the challenges that come with it. So, go ahead and give it a read. Cheers!
