Parenting Teenage Girls In The Age Of A New Normal by Michelle Mitchell

Book Review

A short overview of this book

Parenting Teenage Girls In The Age Of A New Normal by Michelle Mitchell is a book that will help parents with parenting a tween girl through the teenage years.

A book that I think the parents of all teen girls should have if they want some useful strategies and tools to help them support their daughter through the teenage years. The book is very practical and uses anecdotes and parent stories throughout. It is divided into 5 topics with specific strategies outlined: disrespect, social media, sexuality, moods and drugs & alcohol.

Personally, as a mother of a tween girl, I have taken away quite a few ideas to implement.

Hey there! I’m Cath Hak from Sex Ed Rescue, and I’m here to talk about an awesome book that I think every parent of a tween or teen girl should read. As a sex educator, I love diving into books and sharing my thoughts on them. Books are not only a great way to have those tough conversations with our kids, but they also help us learn and grow as parents.

Now, I know it’s not always easy to attend workshops or have experts come to your town, so books are a fantastic alternative for expanding our knowledge. The book I want to talk about today was recommended by Maggie Dent, an Australian parenting guru known for her practical and common-sense approach. The book is called Parenting Teenage Girls In The Age Of A New Normal by Michelle Mitchell, an Australian woman who is either a social worker or a psychologist (the details are a bit vague, but that’s not a big deal).

Let me tell you, this book is a game-changer! It covers a wide range of topics that are so important when it comes to parenting teenage girls. And the best part? It’s an easy read! As a busy parent, I often find myself with a bit of downtime while waiting for my son at soccer or swimming practice. This book is perfect for those moments – it’s straightforward, has big words and lots of spaces, and gets straight to the point.

Michelle Mitchell’s writing style is fantastic. She’s not an academic textbook type of writer, but rather a practical one. She shares research and all, but it’s presented in a way that’s relatable and easy to understand. One thing I really loved about this book is the practical takeaways. Even though my daughter is only twelve, I already found some great ideas that I plan to implement. For example, I never thought a phone contract was necessary, but after reading Michelle’s perspective, I’m convinced it’s worth considering.

Now, let’s talk about the content. This book covers everything from drugs and alcohol to managing moods, coping with sexuality, social media, and attitude. Michelle has packed so much valuable information into this book, and I truly appreciate that she includes insights from other parents. It adds a personal touch and makes the book even more relatable.

I’m so impressed with this book that I’ve already ordered a copy for my fourteen-year-old daughter. And here’s the thing, even if you’re not in Australia, this book is still incredibly relevant. Teenage girls are teenage girls, no matter where you are in the world.

So, if you’re looking for a must-have book to navigate the challenges of parenting a teenage girl, I highly recommend Parenting Teenage Girls In The Age Of A New Normal by Michelle Mitchell. It’s definitely going on my list of favorites!

Alright, that’s it from me. I hope this review was helpful. And sorry if my dog’s distractions were a bit distracting too! Take care, and cheers!
