Puberty: Coming to a Body Near You by Kerri Isham

Book Review

A short overview of this book

Puberty: Coming to a Body Near You by Kerri Isham, from Powerup Education in Canada, is a workbook for tweens and teens that goes through all the changes associated with puberty.

It provides lots of valuable information, written activities and thought-provoking questions for kids to answer. This is one of the few puberty workbooks that I know of and would be a good resource for homeschooling parents.

Sexual intercourse is NOT talked about in this book but it does talk about sexual attraction and consent at the very back of the book.

Ideal Age

Ideal for children aged 10 to 13 years.

Hey there! So, I came across this awesome book called Puberty Coming to A Body Near You by Kerri Isham. It’s a self-published book by a woman in Canada who has a teaching and sex education background. This book is specifically designed as a workbook for kids aged 9 to 11, helping them navigate through all the changes that come with puberty.

I must say, it’s a really great resource! Kerri covers everything kids need to know about puberty and even encourages them to ask questions. She starts off by explaining what puberty is all about and then dives into the changes that happen in both boys and girls. She talks about things like masturbation, sexual attraction, gender, and includes some really helpful diagrams too.

What I love about this book is that it’s totally age-appropriate. Kerri knows how to talk about these topics in a way that kids can understand. She even includes diagrams showing the different variations of penises and vulvas, so kids know that everyone’s body is unique. She also talks about the changes that happen in the brain, shows pictures of periods and menstrual products, and covers the boy changes like Adam’s apple and facial hair.

Kerri doesn’t shy away from discussing hormones and masturbation either. She explains why people masturbate and how it feels. Then she goes into detail about puberty and menstruation for girls, discussing different products like menstrual underwear and even those cool leak-proof pads. It’s great because it’s important for girls to feel confident and comfortable in their school uniforms.

The book also includes a section where kids can track their own changes during puberty, which is super helpful. And there’s even more information for boys too! Plus, there are lots of fun activities, questions, and additional information at the back of the book.

Overall, I think this book is a valuable resource that parents can use to help their kids understand and navigate through puberty. Whether you go through it together or let your child work through it on their own, just make sure to check in with them and be there to answer any questions they might have.

I hope this review helps! Cheers!
