A short overview of this book

Sex, Teens, & Everything in Between by Shafia Zaloom is a fabulous book that prepares parents for tricky conversations with teens about sexual consent. There’s a lot of content in this book but it is filled with lots of helpful advice to help parents to navigate conversations about what sex can be about.

Hey there! It’s Cath Hak from Sex Ed Rescue, and today I want to tell you about an awesome book for talking to teens about sex education. This book caught my attention because it takes a unique approach to tackling important topics that teenagers need to know about.

Written by Shafia Zaloom, an American sex educator and parent, Sex Teens and Everything covers everything from consent and healthy relationships to love and sexual harassment. It’s a thick book, so it’s not a quick read, but trust me, it’s worth it!

What I love about this book is that it’s filled with stories. Stories have a way of making us see things from different perspectives, and this book is no exception. It’s packed with valuable information too. It starts off by explaining what consent is and how to teach it, then dives into topics like gender pressure, porn, pleasure, bystander intervention, and staying safe. There’s even an anthology at the back with stories from survivors of sexual assault.

As parents, we want our kids to be safe and informed. We don’t want our daughters to be victims or our sons to be perpetrators. And we definitely don’t want them to just stand by if they witness something inappropriate. That’s why having these conversations with our kids is so important. The world they’re growing up in is different from the one we knew, and we need to equip them with the knowledge and skills to navigate it.

So, make sure to add this book to your shelf. It’s one you’ll want to keep coming back to. Trust me, it’s a game-changer. Cheers!
