Book Review

A short overview of this book

Someday by Alison McGhee is a lovely book for girls that talks about life being a cycle that we all go through and is perfect for early conversations about puberty.

A lovely simple book that you could use to talk with your daughter about the fact that life is a cycle. That we all start life as babies and then recreate our own life. So you could use it to start a conversation about puberty.

Sexual intercourse is NOT talked about in this book.

Hey there! I’m Cath Hak, your friendly Sex Educator from Sex Ed Rescue. Today, I want to tell you about an amazing book called Someday by Alison McGhee. It was published back in 2010 and it’s a real gem.

Now, this book is perfect for girls, but hey, boys can enjoy it too! It’s all about a little girl, but it touches on some important stuff like reproducing and starting the next generation. But don’t worry, it’s not heavy or overwhelming. It’s just a lovely little book that reminds us that life is a journey.

We all start off small, but we grow and experience different things. Sometimes we feel sad, sometimes we feel happy. Life is out there waiting for us to explore. And one day, you’ll leave home and start your own adventure. Maybe, just maybe, you’ll even have a child of your own someday.

The book begins with a sweet moment of counting your child’s fingers and giving them kisses. And it ends with a beautiful image of watching your child brush their own child’s hair. And way down the line, when your hair turns silver in the sun, you’ll look back and remember all those precious moments.

It’s a heartwarming book that reminds us parents are always there for their children. We love them unconditionally, and watching them grow up is a part of life. It’s a great book to start reading around the ages of seven or eight. And it’s a gentle way to introduce the idea of changes happening during puberty.

I hope this recommendation helps you out. Cheers!
