The Breast Book by Emma Pickett

Book Review

A short overview of this book

The Breast Book : A puberty guide with a difference – it’s the when, why and how of breasts by Emma Pickett. This is a fantastic book for tweens and young teens that is focused on breasts. In fact, it’s the only book that I know of for this age group, on this topic. Which means it gives quite detailed information about breasts – absolutely everything your child may want to know about this part of the body.

Hey there! I’m Cath Hak, and welcome to Sex Ed Rescue. On my YouTube channel and website, I review books that help parents have important conversations with their kids about sex education, puberty, and breast changes. Today, I want to talk about a book that really caught my attention – The Breast Book by Emma Pickett. It’s a puberty book specifically focused on breasts, which is pretty unique!

As someone who runs a YouTube channel for tweens and teens called Puberty Talk, I often get questions about breasts. So, I was thrilled to find a book that addresses those questions and more. Emma Pickett has credibility in this area, which is a big plus for me. You see, there are a lot of puberty books out there written by people who don’t have real-life experience helping kids or talking to them about these topics. But Emma Pickett knows her stuff!

One thing I really appreciate about The Breast Book is its emphasis on normalizing breastfeeding. It’s important for kids with breasts to grow up understanding that breastfeeding is a natural way to feed a baby. The book also acknowledges that breasts can be a sexual part of the body, which is an important aspect to discuss as well.

Now, I have to mention that this book is quite wordy. Emma Pickett suggests it’s suitable for kids around eight or nine years old, but it really depends on your child. Some kids are happy to sit through a book like this if you read it together. Plus, the illustrations are absolutely lovely! They showcase different types of bras and breasts, and the book is culturally diverse and gender-friendly too. It even includes the story of a trans person going through puberty.

The Breast Book covers a wide range of topics, from how breasts develop to the different stages of growth, choosing the right bra, and even media literacy and sexualization. It’s incredibly comprehensive! I do wish there was a simplified version with more pictures for younger kids, but overall, it’s a fantastic resource.

So, if you’re looking for a book that addresses questions about breasts and provides valuable information, The Breast Book is definitely worth checking out. You can read it together with your child and have meaningful conversations along the way. And as a parent, you’ll also gain valuable insights that you can share with your kids.

I hope this review has been helpful. Cheers!
