Book Review

A short overview of this book

The Great Big Book of Feelings by Mary Hoffman is one of the many books that this author has written. I am a huge fan of these colourful books and think they are a great resource to have in your bookshelf. And they are also fun, with lots to giggle about!

This book is about feelings and includes a wide range of them. It explains to children that we all experience lots of different emotions, sometimes angry or silly, sometimes jealous or upset; sometimes lonely or worried. However you feel, sharing and talking about your feelings will make you feel better.

Hey there! I’m Cath Hak, and welcome to Sex Ed Rescue. I’ve got something awesome to share with you today. Sex Ed Rescue is not only my YouTube channel where I read some really cool books, but it’s also my website, sexedrescue.com. On the website, you’ll find all the resources and tools you need to have open and honest conversations with your kids about love, sex, relationships, and growing up.

Now, let’s talk about feelings. They’re a huge part of love, sex, and relationships, especially when it comes to teaching sex education to young ones. That’s why I want to introduce you to a fantastic book called The Great Big Book of Feelings by Mary Hoffman and Ross Acquisition. I’ve reviewed a bunch of their books, and let me tell you, they’re amazing! I wish I had found them when my own kids were little. They’re not only educational, but they also have a touch of humor that makes them a joy to read.

The illustrations in this book are simply fantastic. They’re so diverse, showing different skin colors, genders, and even people with glasses. It’s great to see that they’re inclusive of all different types of people.

The book starts off by asking, How do you feel today? It’s not always easy to tell, right? So, as you read this book with your child, you can have fun guessing what each child is feeling. It’s a great way to engage them and get them thinking about emotions. And let me tell you, the activities in this book are awesome too!

The book covers a wide range of feelings, from happiness to sadness, excitement to boredom, and everything in between. It even touches on more complex emotions like anger, being upset, feeling silly, and feeling lonely. It’s important to normalize these emotions and let kids know that it’s okay to feel them.

One thing I really love about this book is that it’s designed to match the way kids’ brains work. Kids often take things very literally, so it’s important to give them lots of examples and explanations. This book does just that, making it easier for them to understand and relate to the concepts being discussed.

The book also covers feelings like embarrassment, shyness, confidence, worry, jealousy, and satisfaction. It’s a comprehensive guide to understanding and expressing emotions. And remember, it’s totally normal to feel different things at the same time or experience different emotions throughout the day.

Overall, I think The Great Big Book of Feelings is a fantastic resource for teaching kids about emotions. The illustrations are captivating, the content is engaging, and it’s a book that you’ll keep going back to. I highly recommend it!

I hope you found this review helpful. Cheers!
