The Human Body Theater by Maris Wicks

Book Review

A short overview of this book

The Human Body Theater by Maris Wicks is a fantastic comic-book that teaches kids about the human body in a fun way! If you’ve got a child who is resistant to reading books about puberty or growing up, this book could be the solution.

So this is an educational book that covers every body system, including the reproductive system (in more detail than most books include). The graphic novel layout makes the book more engaging and fun to read. The author applies humour and makes it a very entertaining read!

And in case you ask… the penis is drawn in such a way that it is difficult to tell if the penis is intact or circumcised. Sorry, I am guessing it could pass as both.

Sex is not talked about in this book. Instead it mentions that the sperm cell meets the egg cell.

Hey there! Welcome to Sex Ed Rescue with Cath Hak. Today, I want to tell you about an awesome book for kids called The Human Body Theatre by Maris Wicks. A parent in my Facebook group actually recommended it to me, and I’m so glad they did!

Now, this book is all about how the human body works. It covers everything from the skeletal system to the digestive system, and even the nervous system. But here’s the thing, it doesn’t specifically talk about sex. Instead, it focuses on the changes that happen to our bodies during puberty and reproduction.

The book explains things like how the sperm cell meets the egg cell, but it doesn’t go into explicit detail about how they actually get together. It’s more about the amazing process of cell division and how a baby develops. It even touches on topics like menstruation, erections, and birth.

What I love about this book is its casual and fun approach. It’s filled with cool illustrations that make learning about the human body a breeze. If your child isn’t a fan of reading long chapter books, this comic-style book might be just the thing for them.

You know, I think it’s important to have books like this that incorporate information about our bodies in a natural way. It helps to remove any shame or embarrassment that might be associated with these topics. After all, it’s just part of our bodies and there’s nothing to be ashamed of.

Unfortunately, many human body books conveniently leave out this important part, which sends the wrong message to kids. We need to let them know that it’s okay to talk about these things and that it’s all just part of life.

So, if you’re looking for a great resource to help your kids understand their bodies and the changes they’ll go through, I highly recommend The Human Body Theatre. I’m so grateful to the parent who shared this gem with me.

I hope you found this review helpful, and if you have any questions, feel free to ask me. Cheers!
