The (Nearly) Teenage Boy’s Guide to (Almost) Everything

Book Review

A short overview of this book

The (Nearly) Teenage Boy’s Guide to (Almost) Everything  by Dr Sharie Coombes is a fantastic resource for boys who are ready to start learning about love, sex, relationships and growing up.

This book is very comprehensive and doesn’t just focus on the physical changes that happen during puberty.  With lots of great child-friendly information included about the emotional and social aspects of growing up. Sex is talked about, as well as sexual feelings and ‘liking’ someone.

I really like this book. It provides just enough information to educate, without reaching the point of overwhelm. Plus it is laid out in a way that will keep your child engaged, with lots of illustrations and the content being broken up into simple sections.

It’s a nice little book! And there is a version for girls too!

This book only shows an intact penis ie with a foreskin. It does not show circumcised penises.

Sexual intercourse IS talked about inside this book.

Hey there! Welcome to Sex Ed Rescue with Cath Hak. I’m here to help you out with all things sex education. Sex Ed Rescue is not only my YouTube channel where I review sex education books and discuss important topics, but it’s also my website where I guide parents on how to have better conversations about sex with their kids.

Today, I want to talk about a book that a parent in my Facebook group recommended. It’s called The Nearly Teenage Boys Guide to Almost Everything: How to Stay Healthy and Happy in Adolescence by Dr. Sharie Coombes. This book, which came out in 2019, is not just about puberty, but it’s also about growing up. Let me show you why I love it.

The book covers a wide range of topics. It starts by explaining hormones, feelings, and brain development. But it goes beyond that. It tackles the tough questions like why we get so angry, the meaning of family, and the importance of friends and relationships. It even covers topics like periods, self-discovery, and the challenges of online life, including social media.

Remember how confusing it was when you were going through puberty? I certainly do! This book addresses those struggles and helps kids navigate through them. It also talks about changes in voices, acne, and, yes, even sexual arousal. It’s important to note that it discusses sexual attraction, which most kids experience during puberty, but not all. The book also covers the changes that happen in female bodies, as well as topics like sex, pregnancy, contraception, and consent.

I really appreciate how this book is laid out. It’s visually appealing and easy to read, with beautiful illustrations throughout. It’s not an overly detailed book, but it provides enough information to educate kids and give them a good understanding of these important topics. Plus, it’s inclusive and diverse, which is fantastic!

Oh, and did I mention it even addresses pornography? This book covers it all! It’s about 63 pages long, so it’s not too overwhelming. It’s a modern and up-to-date resource that kids will find engaging and easy to understand.

I also checked out the girls’ version of the book on Amazon, and it’s very similar in terms of topics and layout. So, whether you have a boy or a girl, this book has got you covered.

I hope this review helps you make an informed decision. Cheers!
