Whoever You Are by Mem Fox

Book Review

A short overview of this book

Whoever You Are by Mem Fox is a great book for encouraging children to be accepting of diversity. It helps them to understand that everyone is different (themself included) and that’s okay. Which means they will grow up to be tolerant of diversity in the world around them. An important lesson for children to learn!

Hey there! Welcome to Sex Ed Rescue, I’m Cath Hak, your friendly sex educator. On my YouTube channel and website, I’ve got loads of books to help you talk to kids about love, sex, relationships, and growing up. Right now, I’m adding a bunch of resources that will help you start sex education and have important conversations about preventing sexual abuse.

One of the books I want to share with you is called Whoever You Are by Mem Fox. It’s been around for a while and it’s absolutely lovely. This book celebrates the fact that even though we may look different and have different cultures and backgrounds, we’re all the same deep down. Let me give you a little tour of it.

Alright, my little friend, this book is perfect for younger children. It teaches them that there are kids just like them all over the world. Sure, their skin, homes, and schools might be different, but inside, their hearts are just like yours. No matter where they are, their smiles, laughter, and even their hurts are just like yours.

The book wants to show kids that it’s totally normal to be different. We might look different and do different things, but at the end of the day, we’re all alike. So, wherever they are in this big, wide world, remember that their joys, love, pain, blood, smiles, and hearts are just the same as ours. It’s a sweet and lyrical way to start talking to kids about diversity and how we’re all connected.

I hope this book helps you have meaningful conversations with the little ones in your life. Remember, we’re all different, but we’re also similar in so many ways. Take care!
