Worm Loves Worm by J.J. Austrian

Book Review

A short overview of this book

Worm Loves Worm by J.J. Austrian is a lovely book for young children that is perfect for talking about love and marriage, especially same-sex marriage.

It is difficult to find a book that is inclusive of same-sex marriages, and this book could be used for different-sex marriages as well. The emphasis is that you don’t need to conform to society’s expectations or traditions and that a wedding is about love (and not about conforming).

Hey there! Welcome to Sex Ed Rescue with Cath Hak. This is my YouTube channel where I review all kinds of books and cover various topics related to love, sex, relationships, and growing up. You can also find more helpful resources on my website, Sex Ed Rescue, where I assist parents in finding better ways to talk to their kids about these important subjects.

So, today I want to talk about a book called Worm Loves Worm by JJ Austrian and illustrated by Mike Carrato. This book was recommended to me by a parent, and I have to say, it’s quite interesting!

I was reading it on the bus while my kids were enjoying their ice cream from a place called Whisk. At first, I thought it was going to be all about stereotypes, you know, like how weddings should be with veils and all that. And honestly, I wasn’t sure if it was a book I wanted to promote.

But guess what? It surprised me in a good way! The story revolves around two worms who want to get married. The best part is, we can’t tell their gender or sex, so it’s open to interpretation. They face all these stereotypes and expectations along the way, like wearing rings and a white dress, but they cleverly challenge them.

They show that you don’t have to conform to traditional norms. They find creative solutions, like wearing rings as belts and choosing their own roles as bride and groom. It’s all about breaking free from the old ways and making weddings more inclusive and personal.

This book is not only great for discussing love and weddings, but it’s also a fantastic tool for talking about same-sex marriage. It highlights the fact that traditions can change and that love knows no boundaries.

So, whether you’re having a traditional wedding or something more unique, this book can help you and your kids explore the idea that love is love, and everyone deserves to celebrate it in their own way.

I hope you found this book review helpful. Feel free to check it out and start some meaningful conversations with your little ones. Cheers!
