Hey there! I’m Cath Hak, also known as Cath Hakanson from Sex Ed Rescue. My website is all about helping parents find an easier way to talk to their kids about love, sex, relationships, and all that good stuff. Today, I want to talk to you about a fantastic book for young children called Yes No: A First Conversation About Consent.

This book is part of a series that the publishers are putting out. They’ve got one about gender and another one about love coming soon. I’m really excited about this series because there aren’t many board books out there that cover topics related to sex education. So when I saw this book, I couldn’t contain my excitement!

What’s great about Yes No is that it discusses body ownership and uses the correct terminology. They talk about the vulva, not just the vagina. It’s important for kids to understand that the vulva is the outside and the vagina is the inside. The book also provides guidance for parents at the back, which is super helpful. It gives you tips on what to talk about and how to continue the conversation with your little ones.

The book covers a lot of important topics. It teaches children about bodily autonomy, vocabulary, pleasure, power dynamics, and boundaries. It even touches on the concept of affirmative consent. It’s really comprehensive and I was impressed as I read through it. They didn’t miss anything!

The illustrations are diverse and inclusive, which is fantastic to see. The book breaks down the concept of consent in a simple and easy-to-understand way. It’s a great addition to any bookshelf, especially if you have young kids. These books are meant to be read and revisited, not just borrowed from the library once a year. They provide a solid foundation for ongoing conversations with your children as they grow up.

So, if you’re one of the many parents who want to have better conversations about consent, I highly recommend getting your hands on this book. Trust me, it’s essential! And on that note, I better wrap things up because my dog is about to start yapping and nobody wants to hear that. Take care and cheers!
