What’s the Big Deal About Puberty

Course Review

A short overview of this book

What’s the Big Deal About Puberty is a fantastic two-hour online workshop for 9 to 12 year olds about puberty. It is fun, educational, age-appropriate and is the creation of Rowena Thomas from Amazing Me! It is a great way to get information into your child about puberty, and is an easy way to get conversations started!

So how does it work? You buy it and receive an email with information on how to access it. You login, watch the parent video by yourself, download and print the activity book. You then let your child know that you have a fun workshop for the two of you to watch about puberty, and start watching it together.

What if my child is resistant? LOL, do what I did and offer an incentive (AKA bribery). At the end of the day, what matters is that they watch it with you. So if you have to bribe them (like I did with my kid), it doesn’t really matter. Yes, they may be a little reluctant, but the workshop is designed to be interactive, which means they will be engaged regardless of whether they are willing, or not!

Hey there, I’m Cath Hak from Sex Ed Rescue! I wanted to give you a rundown of Rowena’s puberty programme for kids. It’s a pre-recorded, super fancy-looking resource that your child can either watch with you or do on their own to learn all about puberty.

Let me show you what it looks like once you’re inside. Once you’ve paid and logged in, you’ll find it divided into two parts. Now, I have to tell you a funny story. I had to bribe my son with McDonald’s to get him to do it with me on a Saturday morning. He wasn’t too keen, but I wanted to get his perspective before I recommended it to you.

Surprisingly, he actually got into it and engaged with the activities. I really appreciated that there were interactive elements like writing and moving around. We finished it in just a couple of hours, with a break in between.

So, let’s dive into the programme. Rowena starts off by talking to you and giving you all the necessary information. There are notes for parents and even an activity book. I’ll quickly show you a glimpse of the activity book. It’s really cool, with questions and a find-a-word puzzle.

What I love about Rowena is that she has a similar approach to me when it comes to sex education. She’s an Aussie, and her way of connecting with and talking to children during the workshop is amazing. Plus, she used to be a school teacher, so she knows how to engage with kids.

Rowena created this online programme because she can only work so many hours in a day. This way, parents can watch it at home with their kids at their own pace. The programme covers everything from why puberty happens to the changes that occur. Rowena has a positive vibe and encourages kids to embrace and learn about their bodies.

Now, I should mention that the programme refers to boys and girls, not specifically kids with a penis or vulva. That’s just because that’s the audience Rowena works with. But overall, it’s still a fantastic resource.

The second part of the programme focuses on coping with the changes that happen during puberty. It doesn’t specifically talk about sex, as some parents prefer to keep that as a separate conversation. Rowena covers topics like body odor, pimples, wet dreams, and erections. There’s even a section with questions that kids commonly ask.

So, that’s what you’ll find inside Rowena’s Puberty Programme for kids. I truly believe it’s a wonderful resource for parents. While books are great, having something like this, where you can sit down together, watch, talk, and do activities, is a fantastic way to start the puberty conversation.

I hope you find this helpful! If you have any questions, just let me know. Cheers!
