This page contains blog posts to help parents start talking about periods (or menstruation).

You’ll find information about the first periods and the signs that suggest it’ll happen sooner (rather than later). You’ll also find children’s books about periods and information about period products, period pants, period kits and more.

A NOTE ABOUT SEX AND GENDER. Sex and gender exist on spectrums. This page will use the term ‘female’ to refer to the sex assigned at birth. It will use the term ‘girl’ to refer to children who are cisgender i.e. a child who was born with ovaries and identifies as a girl. The information will also be relevant for nonbinary children born with ovaries. The information will not be relevant for transgender girls as gonads drive puberty, and their gonads differ. Click here to learn more about sex and gender.

You can find more helpful resources to help you with the puberty talk in my Puberty 101 page!

More general information about puberty for females can be found in the Girl Puberty page.

If you’re unsure of how to get started with these conversations, then the Sex Ed 101 page may be a better place to start. You might also want to sign up for my free sex education course for parents, Back to Basics, as it helps parents get the correct information and deliver sex education the right way.
