Your Body and You. Growing and Changing by Anita Ganeri

Book Review

A short overview of this book

Your Body and You. Growing and Changing by Anita Ganeri is a book for preteens that explains what happens to your body as it grows and changes through your lifetime.

Growing & Changing explores the human life cycle, looking at how we and our bodies grow, develop and change throughout our life, from birth through to childhood, puberty, adulthood and old age. Along the way, we learn many new skills and discover our independence.

This is a series of four books: Looking after your Body, Growing and Changing, Body Privacy, and You’re Unique. They take a less scientific and more PSHE-friendly approach and encourages readers to appreciate just how special their body really is. Core information on nutrition, exercise and sleep is balanced alongside more challenging issues, such as looking after your mental health, body privacy and how to have a positive body image.

Hey there! I’m Cath Hak, and welcome to Sex Ed Rescue. This is the place where I help parents find a better way to talk to their kids about love, sex, relationships, and growing up. I also review a bunch of books because let’s face it, being a parent means there’s a lot we’re expected to know and remember. Sometimes it can be a challenge to keep up with everything. That’s where books come in handy. You don’t have to remember it all, just read a book to your child. The information is right there!

So, let’s talk about this awesome book called Your Body and You Growing and Changing by Anita Nagara. Anita also has a book on puberty for tweens, which is pretty cool. What makes this author and these books special is that they’re specifically written for tweens. You know, those kids who find picture books a bit too babyish but still need some written information. It’s like the perfect in-between.

Now, I wish I could show you the book right now, but my camera skills aren’t that smart. I should have had it on my other screen, but oh well, I’m not that organized. Anyway, let’s dive into the topics covered in this book. It’s not about puberty, but it’s all about how our bodies grow. Remember that movie Benjamin Button where the guy was born old and then aged in reverse? Well, this book starts off by talking about how we all start as babies and then grow up. The artwork in this book is absolutely beautiful, by the way.

It explains how babies grow inside the uterus without getting into the nitty-gritty of sex. It takes you from being a baby to a toddler, then getting ready for primary school, and becoming a child. Oops, I skipped an age there! And then it talks about puberty and the changes that happen to girl and boy bodies. Now, I have to mention that these books aren’t inclusive, but don’t worry, that’s changing over time. It also touches on the fact that puberty can be a bit scary and confusing, not just physically but emotionally too.

Next up, we have the teenage years. When you turn 13, you’re technically a teenager, and things can be a little different then. The book also talks about becoming an adult, having different interests, and taking on more responsibilities. And of course, we can’t forget about getting older. The book even suggests talking to grandparents about what it was like for them growing up. Times have changed, after all.

So that’s the scoop on this book. It’s part of a series of four, each covering a different aspect of growing up. I personally love anything by Anita Nagara, especially for that tween age group. It’s often hard to find resources that really work for them, but these books are great. Oh, and guess what? My local library already had them, so I didn’t even have to request them. Bonus!

I hope you found this review helpful. Cheers!
