Your Body and You. Looking after your body by Anita Ganeri

Book Review

A short overview of this book

Your Body and You. Looking after your body by Anita Ganeri is one of four books for preteens about looking after their body (inside and outside).

This book teaches that your body is fantastic! You need to look after it well so it will last you through your whole life. Discover how to take care of your body by getting enough rest, eating well and taking enough exercise. But remember you also need to look after your mind and mental health – and this book will show you how.

This is a series of four books: Looking after your Body, Growing and Changing, Body Privacy, and You’re Unique. They take a less scientific and more PSHE-friendly approach and encourages readers to appreciate just how special their body really is. Core information on nutrition, exercise and sleep is balanced alongside more challenging issues, such as looking after your mental health, body privacy and how to have a positive body image.

Hey there! I’m Cath Hak, and welcome to Sex Ed Rescue. This is where I help parents find an easier way to talk to their kids about love, sex, relationships, and growing up. Today, I want to talk about a fantastic book for tweens called Your Body and You: Looking After Your Body. It’s part of a series of four books that are perfect for kids who are outgrowing baby books but aren’t quite ready for books with lots of words. Let me give you a quick rundown of what this book covers.

First off, it’s all about caring for your body. Imagine being a child going through puberty. Suddenly, there are all these new things to take care of, and it can be overwhelming. That’s where this book comes in handy. It helps reinforce the message of self-care and reminds kids of all the things they need to do to keep their bodies healthy. From washing their hair to eating nutritious food, staying hydrated, and getting active, it covers it all.

The book also emphasizes the importance of finding activities that you enjoy and getting enough sleep. It acknowledges that sometimes worries can keep us up at night, and it encourages kids to talk to someone about their concerns. It even touches on stress and offers helpful tips to make you feel better when you’re feeling overwhelmed.

Of course, hygiene is a big part of looking after your body, so the book talks about showering, washing your body, and taking care of your teeth. It doesn’t specifically cover washing genitals or caring for a foreskin, but it does stress the importance of keeping your body clean and healthy.

Sometimes, despite our best efforts, we get sick. The book acknowledges this and reminds kids that it’s okay to get sick sometimes. It also emphasizes the importance of washing hands to prevent the spread of germs.

To wrap things up, the book starts with a positive message. It reminds kids that if they want to be healthy as they grow older, they need to take care of the body they have now. After all, we’re stuck with our bodies for a long time, so we want to make sure they work well for us.

So there you have it! This book is just one of the four in the series, and it’s a great resource for tweens. Sometimes, a different approach or a book that speaks their language can make all the difference in getting an important message across. Cheers!
