Here, you will find some puberty books for 10 year olds that will help them to understand puberty and the changes that will happen to them.
You might have a 10 year old who is starting to show some early signs of puberty. Or maybe you’ve noticed that they aren’t but that some of their friends are. Or maybe they’re starting to ask some questions.
The easiest way to start talking about puberty is with a book. It can be a book to read together, or for your child to read by themself. And don’t forget to tell your child that they can come to you with any questions that they might have about puberty.
For 10 year olds, puberty books can be a bit trickier than it is for younger kids, as some of them are a lot more mature than their peers. This means that they may be more curious about sex than other kids might be.
As kids go through puberty, they start to think about sex a little bit more. This happens because their body is preparing them for adulthood. And the body interprets being an adult as being fertile and capable of reproducing. So, their body makes sure that they will want to have sex and will rewire their brain to start thinking about sex as something that they might want to do.
Now, you can relax, as this won’t usually happen for a few years yet. And even if your child is uninterested in sex, reading age-appropriate information about sex isn’t going to turn them into a sex fiend.
The problem, though, is that kids hear about sex in their everyday lives, so they may be curious about it. It’s better for them to get the right information from you than from other sources like the internet and their peers.
The puberty books for 10 year olds that are listed here will contain a mix of books that do (and don’t) talk about sex. You’ll find a filter in the book list so you can find the puberty books that do (and don’t) talk about sexual intercourse.
From my experience, it is usually the parents who are more unprepared for this information than the kids are. The kids are generally okay with this information, and they’ll usually tell you if the book is too mature for them. They’ll just read the bits that are relevant to them for that point in time, and return to the book for more information when they need it.
NOTE: Before passing any book to your child or reading it with them, you should read it yourself first. I might think it is a great book for a certain age child or that the information is valuable, but you may disagree. Try to choose books that reflect your values and the messages you want your child to receive.

A NOTE ABOUT PUBERTY, SEX AND GENDER. Sex and gender exist on spectrums, and most puberty books don’t reflect this spectrum as they are binary (boy, girl). This page uses the term ‘girl’ to refer to children who are cisgender i.e. a child who was born with ovaries and identifies as a girl. So, the puberty books for girls are about the changes that happen to bodies with ovaries, and they assume your child is cisgender.
