The best puberty books for 10 year olds

Here you will find some puberty books for 10 year olds that may (or may not) tell your child more than they are ready for.

You might have a 10 year old who is starting to show some early signs of puberty. Or maybe you’ve noticed that they aren’t but that some of their friends are. Or maybe your 10 year old is just starting to ask some questions.

The easiest way to start talking about puberty is with a book. It can be a book that you might read together. Or it may be a book that your child reads on their own.

Make sure that your 10 year old knows that they can come to you with any questions that they might have about puberty.

The puberty books for 10 year olds that are listed here all meet the following criteria:

1. It has to be at the right reading level.

2. It has to be simple and not overwhelm kids with too many details.

3. If it does talk about sex, it needs to be pretty basic ie not include too much information.

Puberty books for 10 year olds, is a bit trickier than it is for younger kids. Some 10 year olds are a lot more mature than their peers. Which means that they may be a little curious about sex than other kids might be.

As kids go through puberty, they start to think about sex a little bit more.  This happens because their body is preparing them for adulthood. And the body interprets being an adult as being fertile and capable of reproducing. So their body makes sure that they will want to have sex, and will rewire their brain to start thinking about sex as something that they might want to do.

Now, you can relax, as this doesn’t usually kick in for a few years yet. And even if your 10 year old is uninterested in sex, reading age-appropriate information about it, isn’t going to turn them into a sex fiend.

The problem though is that kids hear about sex in their everyday life, so they may be curious about what it’s really about. And it is better they get the right information from you than from other sources like the internet and their peers.

The puberty books for 10 year olds that are listed here will contain a mix of books that do (and don’t) talk about sex. If it talks about sex, that will be highlighted.

From my experience, it is usually the parents who are more unprepared for this information than the kids are. The kids are fine with it. They will tell you if the book is a bit too mature for them. They’ll just read the bits that are relevant to them for that point in time, and return to the book for more information when they need it.

You’ll find the puberty books for 10 year olds broken into two parts ie boys (or males) and girls (or females).

You can find more books about different topics in the main list of Sex Education Books for Children.

And if you find this list a little overwhelming, you might want to look at the age-appropriate list of sex education books.

Recommendations

There are a lot of puberty books in this list which means it’ll be hard to make a choice.

So…

I thought I would share the books that I’m always recommending to parents of 10 year olds.

If you want a book for boys or kids with a male body, that doesn’t mention sex, then Guy Stuff or I’m a boy are both nice little books. Secret Boys Business is a very popular, simple and straight forward book but it does briefly mention sex.

If you want a book for girls or kids with a female body, that doesn’t mention sex, then The Care & Keeping of You 2 is also very popular.  More secret girls business is a very simple book but it does briefly talk about sex).

A great book for all kids that includes sex is So that’s what’s happening.

NOTE: Before passing any book to your child or reading the book with your child, you should read it yourself first. I might think it is a great book for a certain age child or that the information is valuable, but you may disagree. You need to choose books that reflect your values and the messages you want your child to receive.

These are some of the many sex education books suitable for 10 year olds, that have been written. As I find more, I will add them to this list. They are all really good books that they can read to find reliable and accurate information about love, sex and relationships.

Happy reading!
